Get Your DIY Costume Ready
Visit some of your favourite retailers to put together the perfect DIY Costume. We’ve compiled some our favourite, simple DIY costumes.
Put together the perfect DIY Costume with packs of smarties and a pair of pants! Here’s how to pull the look together: Grab approx. 10 packs of the mini boxes of Smarties from Safeway or Shopper’s Drug Mart, throw on your favourite top and pair of pants (that you don’t mind getting adhesive on) – or pick up a new pair online, or visit Old Navy, Ardene, American Eagle or H&M and use a hot glue gun, tape or glue dots to place the Smarties boxes all over your pants. Complete the look with a pair of glasses or accessories of your choice – Shop Now.
With the help of a few fashion staples, a set of headband ears and some face paint or eyeliner, dressing up as a cat can make the perfect DIY costume. Put this look together with a classic black T-shirt, pants or leggings and a set of cat ears from Ardene or Claire’s.
Similar to the cat, dressing up as a cheetah or leopard is an easy DIY Costume that is easy to pull together with a few outfits from your closet or favourite retailers.
The Classic (friendly) Ghost
When in doubt – opt for a friendly ghost! If you’re out of options or need something quick, grab an old sheet or throw on an all white outfit to master this look.
In compliance with the City of Calgary’s Mandatory Mask Bylaw, be sure to snag a couple Halloween-themed masks that will go perfectly with any outfit! Learn more about how we’re keeping you safe, where to purchase reusable masks and to plan your visit.
Shop Halloween Face Masks online or visit Ardene and Old Navy in-store.
Spooky Movie Marathon
Whether you stick to your list of spooky classic [Hello Halloweentown on repeat], or you’re looking to explore a new favourite such as Hubie Halloween on Netflix, here are a few must-haves to enjoy a spooky marathon at home!
All great movie marathons start with a cozy place to nestle in! Build a fort with your favourite pillows and blankets or set up a cozy oasis on the couch with pillows and blankets.
Shop all Homewares online or visit Hudson’s Bay, Crate & Barrel and Restoration Hardware in-store.
All The Snacks
Savoury or sweet? Whatever you prefer, a movie marathon isn’t complete without the snacks! Grab a bag of double hit caramel popcorn from Kernels, a box of your favourite chocolates from Purdy’s, or an ooey-gooey cinnamon bun from Cinnzeo! In the mood for chips and candy? Visit Shopper’s Drug Mart on the lower level or Safeway at the North Entrance to load up on your favourites.
Decorate A Pumpkin
Carving or decorating a pumpkin is the perfect way to add a little Halloween decor to your front step, and a fun activity to do with your family. Pick up a pumpkin from Safeway and a set of their pumpkin carving kits and let your design come to life! Pro tip – print an outlined image of what you’d like to carve, and poke the design onto the pumpkin using a push pin. This will help you visualize the design and the small holes will help keep your lines straight!
Don’t forget to keep the pumpkin seeds aside to roast for a tasty treat!
