The Secret is Out! We are excited to announce that Pet Smart, Dollarama and Winners will be opening at Southcentre in the former Sears space occupying the lower level.
Southcentre Mall is completing the redevelopment of the vacant retail space formerly occupied by Sears. The first phase, which includes renovating nearly 100,000 square feet of retail space, will introduce three leading retailers and reinforce the centre’s position as a popular community destination. PetSmart, Winners and Dollarama will occupy the first floor of the space previously held by the major department store. The opening of these three retailers is expected to create more than 150 permanent jobs in the community, in addition to over 200 jobs during the construction phase.
“We are the first shopping centre in Calgary to redevelop retail space of this scale in recent years,” says Jason Bos, General Manager at Southcentre Mall. “We strive to introduce retailers that serve our community’s needs and wants. These three new retailers deliver on this goal and reinforce Southcentre’s reputation as an important, local shopping centre with strong community connections.”
Oxford Properties, which owns and manages Southcentre Mall, has invested in this redevelopment to create new tenant opportunities that fulfill the evolving needs of the community. The first phase of the project features Dollarama, which is set to open this fall; and PetSmart and Winners which are scheduled to open in Spring 2021. Future phases will include additional retailers and businesses on the upper two floors. Once complete, the project will boast a total of almost 235,000 square feet of revived retail space.
“The redevelopment of this real estate was designed to complement and diversify Southcentre’s existing retail mix,” says Bradley Jones, Head of Retail at Oxford Properties. “We aim to connect people to exceptional places; Southcentre is a best-in-class shopping centre that will continue to serve the community’s needs at large.”
Upon completion, the updated retail space will be home to upwards of five new tenants. The projected completion of all phases of the redevelopment is slated for 2022.
